In general Hong Kong's climate is sub-tropical, tending towards temperate for nearly half the year. There are four distinct seasons in Hong Kong.


Winter weather in Hong Kong (mid-December to end of February) is noticeably cooler than the city's other seasons, it is nevertheless mild. Snow is unheard of in Hong Kong and frost occurs only once or twice a year. Crisp, clear days, with little rain do make winter a nice time to visit Hong Kong. You can expect temperatures during the day of 17C (63F) with almost no rainfall, the average rainfall for the winter period is 30-40 mm.
 
Spring weather in Hong Kong (March-May), can bring wonderful warm days with blue skies, or it can bring severe rainstorms. Temperatures rises throughout the spring, starting at around 20C (68F) and reaching more than 30C (86F) towards summer. The average rainfall for the spring period is 90-120 mm.
 
Hong Kong weather in the summer (June-August) is hot and humid. On top of this there is a constant threat of summer showers, thunderstorms and Hong Kong typhoons. Summer is not the best season to visit Hong Kong. The temperatures averages 28C (82F) and is much the same day and night. Rainfall can be very heavy, but on average rainfall for the summer period is 80-100 mm. Typhoons usually occur between June and September and can bring a halt to local business for a day or less
 
The best time of the year to visit Hong Kong is in the autumn (September - mid-December). During autumn humidity is low, temperatures nice and warming, and skies are bright. This time of the year the weather in Hong Kong is also the most predictable, with sudden changes in the weather unlikely. The average temperature is 24C (75F). Rainfall is very light with few rainy days, especially towards the end of the year; the average rainfall is 20-30 mm.
