Macau is a Special Administrative Region of the Peoples Republic of China. When Macau on the 20th December 1999 was handed over from the Portuguese it was agreed that Macau maintains a high degree of autonomy until at least fifty years after the transfer, an arrangement not unlike that which accompanied the British transfer of power in Hong Kong.

Macau is located on the southeastern coast of China. The territory comprises a peninsula and two islands in the Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province. The total area of Macau is 26.8 sq km. The city of Macau is built on the peninsula. The total population is approximately 525,000 of which 95% are Chinese. Chinese and Portuguese are the two official languages of Macau. Macau is today being described as the new Las Vegas of Asia, but Macau also has a bit of culture fore everyone. Many of the area's historic attractions are concentrated towards the center of the peninsula, but the city's unique cultural atmosphere exists throughout.

Macau is definitely a great place to find good restaurants with different types of cuisines from both Portuguese, Macanese and other Eastern and Western food. The Portuguese also learned from Africa and India how to use spices, with the result that Macau's most popular dishes include African and Goanese chicken and piquant prawn, all baked or grilled with peppers and chilies. The combination of Portuguese, Indian and even Malay and Chinese cuisine make up the Macanese cuisine which cannot be found elsewhere in the world.
